Seed Needs has been providing gardeners with quality seed products since 2010, shipping millions of packets to happy customers across the US. We offer a wide range of flowers, herbs, vegetables, vines, wildflower blends, and seed packet collections and favors.
With the success of our brand, we have kept our promise to continuously donate to various organizations and personally sponsor over 100 children worldwide each month - a tremendous growth from just 1 child in 2010. We are deeply grateful to all our supporters, without whom this would not have been possible.
About Our Seed Packets Our beautifully illustrated seed packets feature the common and scientific names, seed quantity, and details about the variety. The reverse side provides full growing instructions, including sowing, growing conditions, and germination and growth information, as well as a QR code for easy reordering.
About Our Seeds All our seeds are non-GMO, untreated, and stored in a temperature-controlled, moisture-free facility. They are packaged for the current and following growing seasons, are 99% pure with no added fillers, and are true to the advertised variety. We never knowingly purchase or treat our seeds with substances like neonicotinoids or thiram.
Our heirloom varieties have been intentionally bred, selected, and passed down through generations, ensuring they will breed true to the parent seed every time. Flowers like Portulaca, or "Moss Rose," will attract beneficial insects such as butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees, and ladybugs to your garden.
Portulaca: A Vibrant Groundcover Portulaca, also known as "Moss Rose," produces beautiful 2-inch, paper-like flowers in a range of colors, including red, pink, yellow, white, purple, and rose. Growing only 3 to 6 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide, Portulaca makes an excellent groundcover, thriving in rock gardens, containers, flower beds, borders, driveways, and walkways.
Sowing and Growing Portulaca Portulaca seeds are tiny, so it's best to start them indoors for transplanting, unless sowing directly on a calm day with little chance of heavy rainfall or wind. Sow them on the soil surface, 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, and transplant or direct sow when the weather is warm. Portulaca seeds germinate in temperatures of 70°F or higher and require full sun and well-drained soil.
Germination usually occurs within 7 to 10 days, and the plants can be spaced 8 to 12 inches apart, blooming all summer long with their captivating, paper-like flowers.
Why Choose Seed Needs? - Generous seed quantities for sharing or saving - Freshest seeds available, direct from growers - Non-GMO, open-pollinated, and heirloom varieties - Moisture-resistant, tear-resistant packaging for maximum freshness - Committed to giving back through donations and sponsorships
